By the truly word family unit I am allude to a relationship that contains kids. The socially perceived variant of the family is that there is a Dendranthema grandifloruom and a dad and children, non two pas or two female guardians. There is a turning figure of the last sort of families and society is truly part on whether these family units are correct and fit for bringing up kids. There are a few issues that identify with the rise of children in a gay relationship, these are the effect on the child, should homophiles have the option to bring up kids, the organizations that they become guardians. Result on the children The main worry of society International Relations and Security Network T that gays, as universes are bringing up kids however the influence that being gay is heading out to hang on the children and are they venturing out to turn out ordinary. An American overview found that children of gay guardians have comparative IQs, create run of the mill benevolent connections, have an ordinary metal health and are not any more prone to be befuddled about their sexual orientation ( Shapiro 1996 ) . This is non to express that the children are circulated in a similar proportion in sexual affinity Actually gay guardians have a higher per centum of gay posterity. This is doubtful to make with the raising way of the gay guardians, sing that the most recent exploration shows that homosexualism is for the most part familial ( Shapiro 1996 ) . It might mean that there is a prior acknowledgment of the child s sexual affinity. This is fundamentally venturing out to expect that there are heading out to less marital interference ups, as a result of adults perceiving that they are lively. The effect on kids is a heatedly discussed issue ; the general cultural idea is that, both a mama and a dad are irreplaceable for a decent childhood. On the off chance that we take the outline of a male kid, he needs both a mama and a dad for the various pieces of his metal and truly advancement so he can end up being a typical grown-up male. The truly reality that typical is directed by society is the greatest down pre-winter in this announcement. In the event that being gay were full recognized by society and seen as bit of being ordinary so there would be no activity with a typical gay individual bringing up kids. In the event that homosexualism is familial so being gay is bit of being ordinary. This implies it would do detect if happy guardians brought up lively children for the truly ground that the guardians would be progressively loosened and less predisposition about being gay. Another preferred position of gay guardians bringing up kids is that they are brought up in a unive rse that they can see the two sides to sexual orientation and they can do an increasingly educated pick and follow their internal sex. The exploration that has been finished with kids brought up in gay families is truly restricted and there have been no recorded occurrence surveies. This is on the grounds that the issue has simply really gone to a caput in the last 20 mature ages. This implies the since a long time ago run impacts, assuming any, on the child s mental wellbeing have non had a chance to be perceived. The exploration that has been has been done has non revealed any unpropitious impacts. Should gay teams bring up kids Aside from the problem to make with the reality on the off chance that they are correct or inaccurate in their sex, the height of children by homophiles is an extremely dubious subject for the way that they can non hold kids with their companions. This activity has different sides to the announcement one: they, as a gathering of individuals, have picked non to hold kids by being gay, the other is that homophiles are still universes they despite everything have a similar human cultivating highlights that straight people do. The truly explanation that homophiles do non hold the option to bring up kids since they are chipper is a baseless. It is suggesting that they are non human. It is non All appropriate for gay people to bring up kids yet in the event that a killing needs to bring up a child it is All right, on the confirmations that he is hetero. The main issue is the family condition that the child is being brought up in. On the off chance that a child is brought up in an adoring and stable spot, they are all things considered classed as typical children, and they ordinarily grow up to fall in most of society. So the request is whether a cherishing and stable gay people family unit is not the same as an adoring and stable hetero family. There are a bunch of good aspects of children being brought up in sprightly families. The children have a more noteworthy receptiveness toward minority gatherings and different gatherings that are competent to cultural predisposition. Bias is the most elevated signifier of numbness and since the child has experienced childhood in a domain that is truly detached and they have encountered partiality at a serious extent, they will essentially be all the more with the exception of. Consequences of another American examination undertaking ( Crawford 1999 ) shows that kids that are brought up in ga y spots are non as influenced by jokes when they are turning up as comparable children brought up in hetero places. This implies these children are vastly improved outfitted to get by with schoolyard terrorizing. Wouldn t it be something to be thankful for that children do non stress over these condition of affairss so much? As an outcome of the children understanding that significant jokes are a greater amount of import than schoolyard minor occupation they would non serve out maltreatment ; Possibly all children ought to be raised by gay pairs. There is simply one more issue that is of significant worry to everyone and that is the 1 of pedophilia. This is a significant concern in light of the fact that: Despite the fact that homophiles speak to under three for each centum of the US populace, at any rate on-third of all kid attacks include gay movement. In this manner, the inclining for pedophilia is far higher among homophiles. Dudley 1992 Going on these components it is an extremely enormous danger to permit homophiles bring up kids. These outcomes are non of gay guardians yet are of gay movement, subsequently non all performed by homophiles and there is an extremely thin open door that the figures would incorporate bright guardians. On the off chance that one ponders the chance of moment lesting a child and even their ain descendants it is totally loathsome. There is unfortunately a little for every centum of the populace that vibe this is ordinary or experience the interest to move thusly. In spite of the fact that the mass is gay in nature the truly demonstration that these individuals perform is debased non raising. The gay guardians would non execute these Acts of the Apostless. There are a microscopic per centum of all guardians that attack their children however the proportion of hetero to gay would be the equivalent and may even be less. It is really hard for gay teams or even bright singles to try and accept about the opportunity of holding kids, this it implies that there should be undaunted standards and all around a solid base to build a family unit on. In the event that the gay individual/s didn T have these musings so they would non see going guardians, whichever way they choose to hold kids. Meanss of going guardians There is a gigantic activity that society has with homophiles holding and bringing up kids ; this activity is sprung from the idea that homosexualism is non characteristic. This idea so prompts the explanation that since homosexualism is non characteristic, Is it common for them to bring up or hold kids? Lashkar-e-taibas state that it is typical for there to be homophiles so the announcement is that God has kept them from holding children and they are non intended to bring up kids. On the off chance that one takes this announcement so you need to mull over that by this definition society is condeming hetero teams that can for some ground non hold kids, is this what society needs? There are three different ways that gay or sapphic teams can determine a child: 1. By winning confinement of a child that was part of an old hetero relationship, by acknowledgment or by substitute organizations of develop. Most children that are contained in a gay relationship are from old hetero connections, in spite of the fact that the per centums are going toward the other two signifiers and the per centums are get bringing down to try and out. 2. The picking up of detainment of a child or children from an old hetero relationship is the most widely recognized signifier of children being put in a gay family unit situation. This signifier of puting a child in a gay family unit is the least disputable in light of the fact that there is one parent from the child s unique guardians. This impossible to miss signifier is the most socially acknowledged on the grounds that the child has ordinarily encountered the relationship that their hetero guardians had. This would mean that the child would hold a progressively different and better situation of his/her picks to make with sexual orientation, in so holding a superior situation than that of a child from a hetero relationship. 3. Embracing is the accompanying way for gay people to determine kids. There a couple of issues partner to this, on the off chance that one takes the explanation that homophiles were non made to hold kids, so you need to hold that hetero pairs that are non ready to hold kids, ought to non have the option to follow. The reality of the undertaking is that we as universes have a typical drive or want to bring up kids regardless of our sexual tendencies and there ought to non be any preference due to cultural biass. The most disputable way that gay people are determining and holding kids is that of using benefactor sperm or IVF for the tribades. Lesbians are unnaturally inseminated by inferring dish to sperm and imbuing themselves. There are two different ways this is increased one and regularly picked up from a sprightly male and the child is making a trip to be given to the gay male parent or kept by the female parent, the other is that the sperm is picked up from a sperm bank. This is the significant issue on account of the truly certainty that gay people can non hold kids with their mates, this activity is only at that pl Milissa Mattisonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02021577369735581429noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-395525341968870449.post-31508017442261543342020-08-23T00:12:00.001-07:002020-08-23T00:12:04.583-07:00Related Literature for Inventory System free essay sampleDirection of the understudies and understudy instructors and get the last rundown of legitimate understudy second day/Saturday Dec. 1, 2012 * first checking the participation of the understudies and separate them from (3 â⬠5),(6 â⬠8),(9 â⬠15) 3-5 goes to Carina, Mae and Malabunga 6-8 take in charged by Judith and Canaria while 9-15 handle by Battalier, Quientela and Berdin. 3nd day/Saturday Dec. 8, 2012 * Teaching the understudies 4nd day/Saturday Dec. 15, 2012 * Teaching the understudies 5nd day/Saturday Dec. 22, 2012 * Teaching the understudies 6nd day/Saturday Dec. 29, 2012 No classes since CWTS and LTS understudies went to Provincial Jail. 7nd day/Saturday January 05, 2013 * (Delayed of Christmas Party) Christmas Party of the understudies was medyo postponed for certain reasons. Tom, the oldest child of the Joad Family, ends up in an exceptional when he should leave his home and head out to California with his family. As Tom and his family traveled West on their excursion, he wound up as the pioneer of the family after his grandpa had passed on and his dad was not thinking straight. All through the excursion, Tom and his mom dealt with the family and did as well as could be expected to keep up request in the family. Tom was a decent, sensible individual. Sure he had been secured Prison for four a long time, yet that was simply because he got in a tipsy battle and killed a man with a scoop. Be that as it may, Tom was just shielding himself, he didn't intend to murder the man, yet he did. In jail, Tom minded his own business and didn't talk a lot. He presumably figured that was the just way he would escape jail sooner. Also, his understanding paid off, in light of the fact that he was discharged in four years, rather than seven. At the point when Tom returned home, he understood that nothing was left. The entirety of the houses were torn down and everybody was no more. On the off chance that Tom hadn't seen his old neighbor Muley, he may have never observed his family again. After Muley had disclosed to Tom that his family was with his Uncle John, he set out to his Uncle's home with his old companion, Casy. When Tom's mom saw him remaining in the entryway, she was so upbeat that Her head sank gradually to her side and the fork she was holding in her hand hit the floor (Steinbeck 80). After Tom had re-familiar himself with everybody in his family, they all plunked down and ate. After breakfast, they all examined and arranged their excursion to California. After Tom and his family chosen when they were leaving, Tom needed to give it some genuine deduction before he chose to leave. Since he was free from jail, but still under watch, he could not leave the state, or probably he would get sent back to prison for the staying three years of his sentence. In any case, Tom understood that his family required him with them, so he chose to go with them. In addition, Tom figured that on the off chance that he simply didn't fall into any difficulty in California, he would be fine. Tom and his family left the following morning at light. They took Roadway 66, the principle vagrant street the nation over (Steinbeck 127). The excursion was a long one, But Tom and his family figured out how to arrive. Tragically, Tom's family endured numerous misfortunes. Tom's grandpa passed on while in transit to California, and Tom's grandmother passed on in California, however she couldn't see the mountains and incredible valley's of California. Noah, Tom's sibling, got abandoned some place in the Mojave Desert in light of the fact that he just left down a waterway. Casy, made it to California, yet he was taken into prison for hitting a cop at one of the Hoovervilles. When Tom and his family looked for some kind of employment, times were not so awful. In any case, when they couldn't discover any work, things got terrible. So Tom and his family needed to leave the principal couple of spots they remained at in light of the fact that they required food also, cash. Tom understood that his family required somewhere they could go to where they would be dealt with acceptable and where they could be perfect. He chose to take his family to one of the administration camps that individuals had been discussing. So Tom took his family to an administration camp and they lived entirely great, however just for a brief timeframe. At the administration camp, life was acceptable. There were restrooms, showers, and places to wash garments. Tom and his family lived for just a month. They would have remained longer, however the family couldn't look for some kind of employment. So Tom and his family set off. They had known about some conceivable work not very far away. At the point when they got to Hooper Ranch, the cops arranged them out and about and sent them in to the farm. The work there wasn't so great. They were paid five pennies for each container of peaches that they picked. Things would not have gotten so terrible if Tom had not assaulted a cop. Be that as it may, Tom just did it in self guard. Two female heroes drew in with the dreamlands of Terry Gilliams Tideland (2006) and Guillermo Del Toros Pans Labyrinth (2006). For Jeliza Rose in Tideland, life was hard and desolate thus she started to slip into a shape-moving and fairly strange variant of her troublesome reality. Life for Ofelia of Pans Labyrinth, is the brutal and unforgiving condition of fundamentalist Spainâ â â â â , where she becomes friends with a faun and learns of a fantastical domain where she is princess. These young ladies are confronted with intense and unsympathetic real factors and a tumble down the hare opening to some degree salvages them. Next in 2007, The Bridge to Terabithia (2007) presents another youngster hero whose commitment with a substitute reality has stunning and breaking impacts. It is getting progressively hard to disregard the .. This is a piece of an ongoing and unmistakeable restoration of enthusiasm for dream; ââ¬Ëin the most recent couple of years, dream when all is said in done has thundered once more into a noticeable spot in famous culture'[1] with the rise of screen adjustments of imagination books. The critical year for the resurgence in dream was 2001 where the principal portion of J.K. Rowlings Harry potter with Chris Colombuss Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone (2001) and the initial segment of J.R.R. Tolkiens The Lord of the Rings with Peter Jacksons The Fellowship of the Ring(2001) picked up film industry achievement a resulting ââ¬Ëglobal long for fantasy'[2]has been uncovered. David head servant thinks about an apparant brilliant time of fantasy[3] because of the ongoing commodifcation of the incredible. Howvere there have been notwithstanding a general absence of study and hypothesizing of the incredible there has been some plenitude in investigation since this recovery yet there i s by all accounts a hole in the field as far as the focal point of the kid portagonist corresponding to the contentoius and debeateable issue of idealism. This paper contenplates the how every one of theories films draw in with dream and wthat the ramifications of idealism are. A considertaion inside movies diegesis concerning the youngster heroes connection to idealism and substitute truths is made What is intriguing about every one of the considered movies is all worry pubescent kid heroes who excursion to interchange universes. The youngster legend figure is significant, ageless and incredible and this colossal prominence has numerous ramifications for the crowd. by developing a true to life perspective from a childs point of view, movie producers make suppositions about the idea of adolescence. The ââ¬Ëchildhood as a perspective is rendered by movie producers where the youngster, or kids, highlight, regularly at the focal point of the account, while simultaneously, signifcanlty going about as the storyteller. These are films that utilization a kid to take us on an excursion of revelation. Idealism ARGUMENT?- that these dim dream films present inncoence against grown-up bad habit and that in this way ADULTS FEEL UNCOMFOTABLE AND REACT NEGATIVELY. The childs unrivaled astuteness, an expected vantage purpose of guiltlessness and ââ¬Ëgreater access to dream, leaves the grown-ups in the crowd to see their own ridiculousness and cruelty through the eyes of the child,[4] this is a pervasive inclination in Tideland and Pans Labyrinth as the sexual wantonness of Dell and the savagery and corruptedness of Captain Vidal is set against the delicate energy of the Ofelia and Jeliza-Rose. Idealism ARGUMENT!!!!Through the eyes of the kid, we draw in with the wonderous and the weird, which turns into a ââ¬Ëreservoir of solidarity for the kid. The idea that the youngster as a blameless, unadulterated and immaculate figure is one that is charming to crowds and producers the same. The youthful feisty female heroes in these movies have created and are a long ways from the latent and accommodating, one dimensional characters of Disney. This is critical in the advancement of the kid hero and substitute world fantasy as Disney commanded that fantasy in video form specialty. The creative liveliness of Disney was undoubtedly phenomenal, yet in Jack Zipes see Disney really advanced the ââ¬Ëdomestication of the imagination.[5] Walt Disneys fantasy films offered a ââ¬Ëeternal return of the equivalent, with cliché characters and a huge accentuation on topical structure aswell as a support of ââ¬Ënon-intelligent reviewing.[6] Zipes makes the contention that Disney delivers genuinely soothing, unchallenging material. As opposed to Disneys multiplication of fantasy film, Guillermo Del Toros Pans Labyrinth, Terry Gilliams tideland and Gabor Csupos The Bridge to Terabithias joins; a rendering of the fantasy account (on account of Pans Labyrinth), different styles and subjects to make mind boggling and testing films that cross nonexclusive limits. Extreme, strong young ladies whose cruel truths are pushed onto the crowd in an un soothing way are the component of these most recent dream films. This paper considers youthful female heroes who need to experience and manage emotional and central changes in their lives. These are identified with the change of young ladies into ladies; development of pubescence and grown-up sexuality. Vital to this task is an attention on psycho sexual and social changes. The youngster legend figure is an incredible and significant one that has an immortal pith. Also, this natural any expectation of the kid legend is obvious at the focal point of every one of these movies. The promotion and regular utilization of the kid figure has its underlying foundations in Victorian culture, a period wherein fantasies were regulated in the West. Toward the finish of the nineteenth century fantasies were being composed and distributed in bounty after a time of being aimed at the grown-up exclusive classes they started to be made for kids and the family. Industrialization had profoundly changed society and impacts of distance and suppression were felt. Alices Adventures in Wonderland (1865)[7] written in Britain by Charles Lutwidge Dodgson under the pseudonym of Lewis Carroll. Alices Adventures in Wonderland was purposely made with an all out nonattendance of didacticism[8] and is viewed as one of the most out of control and innovative of Fairy Tales in vcitorian culture. The exceptionally fruitful novel recounts to the account of Alice who brings down an outing down a hare opening to a Wonderland of play on words, imagery and garbage. Carrolls Alice books (nine altogether) were a piece of a development which started to expeiement with Tzvetan Todorovs idea of ââ¬Ënon-meaning, which is presently a built up method of the fabulous. Epistempological question was the element of much nineteenth centuray writing, topics of franticness, fantasies, twofold characters and general parting and divisions of subjects made up the gothic, heavenly and incredible writing. Carrolls Wonderland presents a the difficult of self. Personality is shaky, Alice shrivels and develops in size, and the Cheshire feline vanishes to a smile making ââ¬Ëthe versatility of a dream'[9]. Books which have been adaptetd inot fruitful movies and TV arrangement ushc as Alices Advanetures In Wonderland, The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz and The Chronicles Of Narnia arrangement composed over between mid nineteenth century and the mid-twentieth century all element adventourous youthful heroes with either have missing guardians or are vagrants, who all leave on their own excursions of revelation . the poratgonist are at a prebuscent age and are sexual and agamic simultaneously, the excursions they take include picking up development a cognizance that is nearer to that of a grown-up close to the end. The Wonderful Wizard of Oz written in 1900 by American writer Frank. L Baum includes another of the most perceived youthful female heroes youthful stranded Dorothy Gale. The tale was colossally famous on discharge and a few film adjustments have been made since. MGMs 1939 technicolor screen adjustment, The Wizard ofOz coordinated by Victor Flemming is the most broadly recognized form and stays a staple piece of American (and Western) mainstream society. After the achievement of the movies the possibility of Dorothy Glae and the place where there is Oz developed to turn into a ####commodity and increased a social after, (for example, the charcters and icongraohy from the film showed up in the Christmas 2009 Harrods window show) . The sepia shades of the opening and completion of Flemmings film emohasuzes the grimness and dismalness thta Dorothy percievs the homestead where she lives to be, aswell as mirroring the sentiments of disillusionment that individuals felt because of the hards hip of the Deppression in America at that point, individuals cold identify with Dorothys disappointment in her environmental factors, they likewise ached for ââ¬Ësomewhere over the rainbow. In the wake of understanding that ââ¬Ëthere is no spot like home Dorothy comes back to Kansas, and a typical element of fairytakles and childrens writing, the arrival to-reality conclusion is given. Dorothy, disillusioned and with just her canine ToTo as organization out of nowhere tropical storm abruptly holds onto the homestead and Dorothy arrives in Oz, shot in distinctive technicoulur stressing the marvelousness and miracle of her dreamland. Dorothy lives with her careless auntie and uncle, heartless moms or substitute moms are a continuous character in fantasies, which leaves the hero feeling disliked. In the event that we acknowledge the regular psychoanalytic guessing that Oz speaks to Dorothys thoughts, at that point it very well may be perused that the characters are misrepresented pieces of herself; the sad and self-basic scarecrow may reflect Dorothys low confidence, the unbending tin man who can't feel love be an indication of Dorothys passionate restraint and the fainthearted lion could demonstrate her absence of good assurance.[10] in any case, in the film, it is clarified that her three colleagues were really the farmhands from the start. Eventually, learning about how all of the social determinants of health shape our overall health started my curiosity about how better care could be delivered as a medical provider. Having an interest and curiosity in the sciences was just a nice coincidence! Accepted:à Can you tell us about your experience taking the MCAT? Were there any surprises? What were your most and least favorite parts of the exam? Allie: As far as my MCAT experience, I had a hard time simplifying what resources I wanted to use. I definitely recommend trying to simplify to using only a couple of resources as your main ones. There were really no surprises on the MCAT since I followed the AAMC topic outline. My least favorite part was the Chemical and Physical Foundations section, since it tends to be my weakest section. As far as favorites go, I was pleasantly surprised that the reading material for the CARS and Psychology section on the test was pretty fun to read. That definitely helped take a bit off the nervousness away during the exam. Accepted:à What are your top three MCAT tips? Allie: My top 3 tips would be: 1. Take higher level science/biology courses if possible! I felt that just by having a lot of exposure to more advanced material and taking classes like physiology where I had to analyze to arrive at an answer on a test really helped me become a better critical thinker overall!! I have zero doubt this skill helped me a lot during moments where I wasnââ¬â¢t sure what the answer was on the test! 2. I would recommend purchasing ALL of the AAMC material (section banks, question packs, flashcards etc) and starting out with some practice using AAMC early on to get the best sense of what the test will actually expect of you. A lot of people wait until the end to get the best use closer to the exam, but I found it much more helpful to start using it earlier on. 3. My biggest tip is to mentally prepare as best as possible for both the studying portion of the process and the actual test day. By mentally preparing, I mean finding a way to believe in yourself despite common opinions on how to go about preparing for the test. Trust your gut instinct on what will work for YOU and only YOU. The short story, written as a letter by Rotpeter, tells of the transition of Rotpeter from his ape existence to that of a human. Rotpeter is regarded as a marvel of nature, his many-thousand year evolution occurring in a mere five. His existence and actions are unique in their own right, and mirror many of the behaviors demonstrated by man. Rotpeterââ¬â¢s process of transformation is reflected, for example, in the adaptation of children to societal norms, or in the assimilation of immigrants into new lands. However, it must be noted that all adaptation entails a corresponding loss of freedom and identity ââ¬â a baby loses his/her innocence and gains inhibitions once societal acclimation begins, and an immigrant must to an extent give up old culture and customs to commit to adapting to a new one. In many respects, Kafkas apes thoughts and behaviors mimic human psychological desires, intentions, and choices. But in drawing these pronounced parallels between Rotpeter and mankind, Kafka doesnt bring apes and humans closer together. Rather, he decisively separates the two, based on these same concepts of behavioral adaptation and freedom. The concept of behavioral adaptation at the expense of identity is one that has been explored vastly in both history and literature, and one Kafka employs front-and-center in A Report. Indeed, much of Freudian thought concerns the concept of ââ¬Å"ego emergence,â⬠which states that the narcissistic qualities the mind contains will overcome any sense of identity or essence a human possesses, to maintain the welfare of the self. Thus, if this thought is to be believed, the human is at the most base level a narcissist, and will do anything for his or her own well-being. Rotpeter, having been captured from his ape existence in the jungles of Africa, faces two choices; remain in his ape state and face the zoo, a cage, and the loss of physical freedoms, or become a vaudeville stage actor with human mentality and behavior. Of course, Rotpeter chooses to pursue the latter, preserving his comfort and showing a striking ability to adapt to human life, largely forsaking his identity as an ape in the process. Rotpeterââ¬â¢s behavior, which is initially very base in nature, most resembles that of the children in William Hewardââ¬â¢s work Exceptional Children, a work which relates the behavior of special education children to the behaviors of other individuals. Specifically, Heward states that though the children may not be able to speak coherent sentences, or even feed themselves properly, they often demonstrate a (relative) remarkable ability to adapt to unconventional situations, which one would expect to confuse them further (Heward). Heward interpreted this behavior as being a triggered stress adaptation, and this interpretation can similarly describe Rotpeterââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"finding a way outâ⬠of his post-capture situation, or as Kafka would call it, ââ¬Å"Ausweg.â⬠This theme of finding Ausweg, which literally translates as ââ¬Å"way out,â⬠is central to interpreting human adaptive behavior. Ausweg, which can be seen as the escape from and betterment of ones s ituation, is what every human lives for. It is a universal motivator. Indeed, a psychologist possessing a Freudian viewpoint would have interpreted the human seeking of Ausweg as further confirmation of mankindââ¬â¢s narcissistic nature. One of Rotpeterââ¬â¢s specific behaviors, his imitation of those around him, sheds light on the manner in which humans, as well as animals, psychologically adapt to their surroundings. Imitation may be the highest form of flattery, but it is also a form of learning necessary for adaptation and survival. Children in the sensorimotor stage of development attempt to match the sounds, gestures, and facial expressions of an adult model such as while playing peek-a-boo. Toddlers, for example, will imitate their parents by pretending to get ready for work or school (Meltzoff 29). Meanwhile, these same imitation skills are noticeably deficient in children with autism, rendering them incapable of reaching the same social acclimation as their peers (Wehner 44). In these roles, imitation helps transmit social norms and promote cultural development in children. This is very telling of imitations role as an integral human adaptive skill. In A Report, imitation is central to Rotpeters escape a nd self-preservation. It is the way he makes himself acceptable and companionable to the humans around him. It is natural behavior for man to imitate, even in the event that the imitation is distasteful. Rotpeterââ¬â¢s incidents in smoking, drinking, and spitting were all distasteful. However, all were important mimicries which helped him along his ââ¬Å"way out.â⬠Like imitation, the cognitive theory of recapitulation (as differentiated from Ernst Haeckels biological recapitulation theory, now largely discredited) also plays a strong role in A Report. While imitation is a kind of social adaptation theory, recapitulation explores adaptation from a more evolutionary and educational perspective. Cognitive recapitulation is nicely summed-up by philosopher Herbert Spencer, who stated ââ¬Å"If there be an order in which the human race has mastered its various knowledge, there will arise in every child an aptitude to acquire these kinds of knowledge in same orderâ⬠(Spencer 5). Recapitulation theory thus sought to rapidly improve cognition and learning through a curriculum based on the evolutionary order of knowledge acquisition, and through severe discipline. Rotpeterââ¬â¢s method of behavioral adaptation exemplifies this theory; the first actions he learns are spitting, smoking, and drinking, indeed very base behaviors in humans. Additiona lly, although Rotpeter at first finds alcohol disgusting, severe discipline reverses his initial reaction. After being subjected to repeated punishment at the hands of a sailor for not drinking, he learns to tolerate alcohol. As opposed to social learning and imitation, recapitulation learning is based on concepts such as repetition, order, and punishment. The punishment in particular is representative of Freudââ¬â¢s take on learning through recapitulation. Once insights into the natural human behavior Rotpeter exhibits have been made, the distinctions between man and ape begin to become clear. Earlier, it was posited that Rotpeter chose learning and adaptation for reason of preservation of physical freedom. However, it is apparent that for every step deeper into the world of humans Rotpeter takes, he is gaining physical freedom, but he is losing something vitally important mental freedom. By entering civilization, he has submitted to the mental yoke that all humans wear, a yoke that constrains their behaviors and mannerisms. Subsequently, in the process of becoming civilized Rotpeters ties with the ape existence become nearly (though not quite) severed. This is where Kafka begins to draw the line between man and ape, a line that borders on psychological freedom. One cant have both to be human is to adapt to civilization and, hence, be less free. Interestingly, Kafka demarcates this line between man and ape by, at first, blurring it. Rotpeters experience with alcohol exposes animal tendencies in the human as much as it showcases human learning in the ape. The punishment inflicted by the sailor upon Rotpeter, and the behavior of many of the crew members, is evident of a lower degree of mind. Indeed, the sailor who trained Rotpeter is said to later be admitted to a mental hospital. It may be said that at this point in the story the line between ape and human is quite blurry. As they each retain qualities of the other, which is which? The alcohol further reinforces this mix-up as a symbol of baseness and abandon. Indeed, here it is the ape who abstains from liquor, while the human does not. But if one looks hard enough the line begins to resolve itself; what finally characterizes the human is a high level of behavioral adaptation, seen here in the ape, while the characteristic of psychological freedom, what the ape has lost, is symbolized by human behavior under the influence of alcohol. By the end of A Report, Rotpeter is neither fully human nor fully ape. He spends the day in the company of humans but sleeps with a ââ¬Å"half-trained chimpanzeeâ⬠by night (6). He has made an effort to learn to be human, but nevertheless it has been a forced career. And while he feels increasingly comfortable in the human world, the ââ¬Å"gentle puff of air playing at his heelsâ⬠(7) is a continual reminder of the life he has left forever. It is clear that although Rotpeter lives willingly within the confines of human civilization, he does not appreciate the yoke it imposes upon him. Through references to Rotpeterââ¬â¢s disorientation, and to his being caught between two worlds, Kafka again reminds us how man and animal are undeniably different in their levels of freedom and behavioral adaptation. Finally, there exists a school of thought (in direct contradiction to Freud, although Kafka with his genius manages to incorporate both theories into one story seamlessly to illustrate a wider view of adaptation) that states that humans are limited in their ability to mentally adapt, largely by pre-determined genetic and physical constraints (Spencer). Rotpeter has indeed come a long way from his ape origins, but is it possible that he still retains some measure of them? Throughout the story the narrator appears very frank, asking for openness and speaking of handshakes, yet there is a sense of contrivance about his report. When all is said and done, Rotpeter does not really claim commonness with humans at all. Indeed, he ridicules the supposed physical freedom of human acrobats on a trapeze, implying it pales in comparison to the mental freedom of apes, and finally asserts that his report is only meant to impart knowledge, distancing himself from his audience. His emphatic statement , ââ¬Å"I am from the Gold Coastâ⬠(1), further proves that he has not renounced his origins. It seems that howsoever Rotpeter may dress himself up as human, an ape is still an ape in his body, as well as in the deep evolutionary recesses of his mind, limiting his ability to completely adapt to civilization. Similarly, no matter how much a human may acclimate to a social constraint, he/she still retains elements of the freedom of the ape (in one form, we have seen, under the influence of alcohol). As Rotpeter states, ââ¬Å"your life as apes, gentlemencannot be farther removed from you than mine is from meâ⬠(7). In A Report to an Academy, Kafka succeeds masterfully in illuminating both obvious and subtle human adaptive behaviors through the medium of his ape. However, instead of drawing human closer to ape through these likenesses, A Report goes deeper and divides them on the twin concepts of behavioral acclimation and psychological freedom. As we have seen, one cannot exist without the other; a gain in one correspondingly offsets a loss in the other. Rotpeter resembles a human in behavior, but yet is not one, as part of him is still attached to a free ape state. By dealing with these two concepts in a humorous yet thorough light, Kafka has made a lasting contribution to the literature of what makes us human ââ¬â a sense of behavioral adaptation that puts on our yoke of civilization, keeping us from experiencing unadapted psychological freedom. These large and insurmountable discrepancies have stumped me and I fear, like many other researchers, that those after us will never know how many slaves resided within the Nation. A slave population increase would not garner much local interest until the emergence of abolitionist and anti-abolitionist movements. Each movement produce a multitude of articles, speeches and newspapers in the hopes of swaying public opinion. The Cherokee Nation would be no exception to this bombardment as both abolitionist and anti-abolitionist sought to convey to the Cherokee people of the banes and joys of slavery. In regards to abolitionist, they did not mask their disdain for the Nationââ¬â¢s posh and abhorrent acceptance of slavery. They expressed immense dissatisfaction with the conduct the Nation was displaying towards its slaves and viewed its many failures at the expense of America and its missionary works. One of its most notable offenses was the public advertisements for a runaway slave. The nature of this anger was that the advertisements were place in the Cherokee Nationââ¬â¢s first and most prominent newspaper, The Cherokee Phoenix. Whereas abolitionist writers felt a sense redemption was need for the Cherokee Nation to move away from slavery, anti-abolitionist felt that a consolidation of its practice inShow MoreRelatedMy Life As A College Student Essay1366 Words à |à 6 PagesOver the course of the last semester, I grew tremendously, not just as a writer but as a student. This countries foundation is based on the fact that an individual can enjoy freedom from oppression and the minoritys opinions can be heard along with the majoritys. Our government is designed to be fair and open minded, to be a servant to the people it governs. Unfortunately once an opinion is placed into the collective mind of society, it is a struggle to alter that opinion through argument and information. We have facilitated this with our blood and hard work in the creation and defending of our constitution. The first issue to be confronted is that of the effects of marijuana on the body. The physiological effects of marijuana on the body are not very strong. It would actually take 20,000 to 40,000 times the normal dose to kill a human being. There is no documented case of a death caused by marijuana overdose. The only noticeable effect on the body is the slight increase in heart beat, depending on the dose amount. The increase in blood pressure also usually creates bloodshot eyes. The mouth tends to dry out and the user has an urge to drink water. All of the other effects that could be related to marijuana use are inconsistent so cannot be directly linked to the substance (Model 15). Many people would argue saying that marijuana has long term long term effects on the body and marijuana effect a persons ability to drive making him a danger to others? These arguments can be addressed with information from cultural anthropologist Charles Levinthol as referenced in Michael Massings article in The Nation. Though Pericles and Alcibiades were related by blood they were quite different. Pericles was a diplomat, he approached matters with a level head and tried to find a solution that did not end in bloodshed. Alcibiades was less stable, he either fought, manipulated, or ran when confronted with a problem. Both men spoke eloquently enough to move almost the entire city of Athens, using their words to bend people to their will. What was different between them was what their will was, one cared about the city and its wellbeing, the other cared about his own wellbeing. Pericles and Alcibiades were both students ofâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦In his ambitions to conquer Sicily and then move on to Italy and the Peloponnesus, he also shows this thirst.12 The Athenians recognized Alcibiadess brilliance and ruthlessness so they elected Nicias as a general to [temper] his rashness.13 Alcibiades resorted to violence to gain glory, Pericles, on the other hand, attempted to prolong peace and settle matters with diplomacy. He once tried to persuade the cities to send delegates to meet in Athens to discuss restorations of temples destroyed during the war with Persia, but nothing came of his plan because of Spartan opposition.14 He even went so far as to bribe the chief magistrates of Sparta to buy time to prepare for war, which he knew was inevitable.15 In his funeral oration, Pericles praises Athens and the citys focus on balance between personal care and care for the state. He compared it to Sparta, where personal comfort was overlooked to benefit the state and said that the personal comfort allowed to Athenians is what makes the war worth fighting.16 By praising Athens, he showed his love and loyalty to his city. Alcibiades had no such loyalty. When he fled to Sparta he was asked if he did not trust his country, his answer was with everything other than his life.17 When in Sparta he gave military advice that caused more ruin and destruction to his city than anything else.18 After Milissa Mattisonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02021577369735581429noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-395525341968870449.post-73997675970231483622020-05-06T20:32:00.001-07:002020-05-06T20:32:22.343-07:00Discovery of America - 6704 Words Voyages of Christopher Columbus From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation, search Discovery of the Americas and Discovery of America redirect here. On May 1, 1489, permission having been granted, Columbus presented his plans to Queen Isabella, who, in turn, referred it to a committee. After the passing of much time, these savants of Castile, like their counterparts in Portugal, reported back that Columbus had judged the distance to Asia much too short. They pronounced the idea impractical, and advised their Royal Highnesses to pass on the proposed venture.[citation needed] However, to keep Columbus from taking his ideas everywhere, and perhaps to keep their options open, the Queen gave him an annual allowance of 12,000 maravedis and in 1489 furnished him with a letter ordering all Castilian cities and towns to provide him food andShow MoreRelatedThe Discovery Of The Americas1754 Words à |à 8 PagesThe discovery of the Americas has impacted the events of world history since Columbus attempted to sail to India in 1492. Dissemination is the process of making the outcomes and deliverables of a project available to the stakeholders and to the wider audience (EAHC, n. d. ). The dissemination of the results is important in maintaining the practice and the outcome for appropriate DC practices in NICU. The results of the project outcome will be disseminated to the key stake holders. The purpose of disseminating the results of project to key stakeholders is to inform project development, to receive feedback and to assure that the practice and the outcome will be maintained after the implementation of the project. Conferences or workshops also offer the advantage that communication can go in both directions: members of the NICU community can be invited to contribute ideas and brainstorm about ways to make use of the project results (EAHC, n. d. ). Inviting other NIUs in the community to participate in the arranged conference will allow disseminating significance of project outcomes to greater nursing community. Conclusion Dissemination is necessary for uplift, and uplift is critical for the victory of the project and for the persistence of the outcome for an extended period (EAHC, n. d. ). He utilizes thisliterary tool in order to help the development of his characters and to express his ultimatemessage to the readers. Some examples of his use of irony are the unintentional yetinevitable ending of the Snopes family time after time, the similarities and differencesbetween Sarty Snopes and his father, and finally, the two distinct purposes for whichAbner Snopes uses fire. Separately, each is able to contribute to the development of thetwo main characters in the short story. Collectively, they are also able to help Faulknerconvey his personal message that essentially, an individualââ¬â¢s sense of values compriseswho he/she is. The most obvious instance of irony is the uncanny fashion in which each endeavorof the Snopes family concludes every time. To the readerââ¬â¢s knowledge, it is neitherintended nor premeditated that each attempt of the family to make a new start results inthe same outcome. Each struggle is exactly that, yielding the invariable, undesired resultof a barn being engulfed in ravaging flames and the family being forced to search for anew beginning. These trials help Sarty understand that in order to take control of his owndestiny, he must separate himself from his family and venture out on his own. If he everwishes to live a life other than that of a vagabond with no real chance for happiness orstability, he must leave now. Another case of the use of irony is the comparison between Sarty Snopes and hisfather. While they physically resemble each other, their morals could not differ more. Sarty is ââ¬Å"small and wiry like his father (p267, paragraph 7).â⬠However the similaritiesare strictly limited to physical characteristics. The values and principles that the fatherand son embrace reveal the true contrast between the two. Abner allows his emotionsand pride to get the better of him, controlling his actions and making him react in anirrational manner. This tears young Sarty apart because although he wishes to obey andhonor his father, he cannot morally respect Abner and his deeds. Faulkner uses thiscontrast in ideals to help Sarty realize that he is does not want to grow up like his fathernor is he obligated to follow in his footsteps. It helps him to see that he must escape if heever wants to change his way of life. The final example of irony is perhaps the most important and effective. AbnerSnopes uses fire for two very distinct purposes which is the epitome of irony. He usesthe fire in a very destructive manner each time he burns down a barn. This immenseblaze serves no purpose but to keep intact his pride, ââ¬Å"the element of fire spoke to somedeep mainspring of his fatherââ¬â¢s being,as the one weapon for the preservation ofintegrity (p 270, paragraph 1).â⬠However, when it comes to keeping his family warm,Abner sets only ââ¬Å"a small fire, niggard almost, a shrewd fire (p 270, paragraph 1).â⬠Tospare the warmth of a large fire for his family while setting grand ones for theunnecessary purpose of demolishing a barn seems ridiculous. Abner Snopes clearly hashis priorities out of order. He is too caught up in his own egotism to realize that hisfamily is suffering right before him. Although literally, Abnerââ¬â¢s habit is to burn barns, perhaps what he is really burning is th e very bridge his family needs to cross in order toachieve contentment, success, and stability. .u05ab67d1dc3f1ea6da5c0f5a5f15d704 , .u05ab67d1dc3f1ea6da5c0f5a5f15d704 .postImageUrl , .u05ab67d1dc3f1ea6da5c0f5a5f15d704 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u05ab67d1dc3f1ea6da5c0f5a5f15d704 , .u05ab67d1dc3f1ea6da5c0f5a5f15d704:hover , .u05ab67d1dc3f1ea6da5c0f5a5f15d704:visited , .u05ab67d1dc3f1ea6da5c0f5a5f15d704:active { border:0!important; } .u05ab67d1dc3f1ea6da5c0f5a5f15d704 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u05ab67d1dc3f1ea6da5c0f5a5f15d704 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u05ab67d1dc3f1ea6da5c0f5a5f15d704:active , .u05ab67d1dc3f1ea6da5c0f5a5f15d704:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u05ab67d1dc3f1ea6da5c0f5a5f15d704 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u05ab67d1dc3f1ea6da5c0f5a5f15d704 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u05ab67d1dc3f1ea6da5c0f5a5f15d704 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u05ab67d1dc3f1ea6da5c0f5a5f15d704 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u05ab67d1dc3f1ea6da5c0f5a5f15d704:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u05ab67d1dc3f1ea6da5c0f5a5f15d704 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u05ab67d1dc3f1ea6da5c0f5a5f15d704 .u05ab67d1dc3f1ea6da5c0f5a5f15d704-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u05ab67d1dc3f1ea6da5c0f5a5f15d704:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Fibonacci Numbers EssayFaulknerââ¬â¢s message about the importance of individual values and ideals iswell-expressed through ââ¬Å"Barn Burning.â⬠It is clear that Abner lacks both and is thereforeunable to provide for his family and induces his own untimely death. This is an extremely powerful quotation that the Inspector leaves us with. Without a doubt these words are very true. In 1914 World War One began and all this fire, blood and anguish became reality. Britain had entered a four-year war that would have an unimaginable effect on her people. Thousands of towns, cities, homes and businesses were destroyed. Millions of people, men the majority, died horrific deaths. Limbs blown off in explosions, bodies burnt alive in scorching heat, shells blasting, bombs lighting up the dark night, poison gas smothering trenches trapping screaming victims below its green deadly surface. One can only imagine the pain, agony and shear devastation and lost of human life. The war ended in 1918 and much of Europe including England was left destroyed. For people like Mr. Birling it was time to rethink. Is it every man for himself? Is community nonsense? This could be one function of the Inspector; to get the Birlings, especially Mr. Birling, to care for others and accept responsibility before it is too late. Only twenty-one years later in 1939 another war broke out in Europe. World War Two lasted for six years, an extra two years of fighting the enemy. In 1945 the war ended. In that same year An Inspector Calls, the play that I will be analysing was written. John Boynton Priestley the author set his play in 1912, before these terrifying events. An Inspector Calls covers very clearly a variety of different themes and ideas that Priestley is concerned about in society. He uses the Inspector as the main character, or one could say a tool, to express these themes and ideas to the audience. The sort of ideas Priestley is concerned about in society and is trying to show are the aspects of: responsibility, community, lies and truth, honesty and self-deception, equality, social snobbery and double standards. I will be covering these aspects and indeed many more as I progress through this assignment. What inspired Priestley? What made him write An Inspector Calls and why set it before World War One? The answer lies in his life before the year of 1945. To answer these questions we must first establish and be aware of the following background information. The Edwardian times seemed to be a very exciting and secure time for Britain and many of her people. She was quickly advancing in industry and technology. Her armed forces were also growing and obviously she was extremely wealthy. For the people living in the upper class society times were good however millions were not having such a good time. For the millions struggling there seemed to be no hope, there was no legislation to save workers from exploitation which of course was occurring in factories all over the country and no Welfare State to support these living such a poor life if times were very bad. The Inspector (Priestley in one sense) could see that this is not the right sort of society and that it had to change otherwise severe consequences would follow. The play is based around this Edwardian society and the Inspector tries his best to cover these important issues and express them to the Birlings in order to make them see what it is like for the other people, not just their breed. Priestley was born into a middle class family and did not suffer like the lower classes, however, this doesnt necessarily mean he did not know what was going on or how these people felt. Priestley as a young man spent four years on the battlefield fighting against the Nazi enemy in World War One. During this war Priestley on numerous occasions, narrowly escaped death, this period in his life allowed him to look at life differently and without a doubt he was directly influenced by these experiences. These four years were the platform which he could build upon. Now with his ideas Priestley needed a suitable date to set his play, the most appropriate date was the year 1912. By specifically choosing to write An Inspector Calls after World War Two and by including the material he has done and indeed the Inspector, Priestley could very effectively attract and hold his audience, as many of them felt the way he did and had lived through the wars and shared his experiences. As a result of the wars everyone was brought together. Everyone united as one country and worked together to defeat the Nazis. The children were brought together by evacuations, the women working in factories to produce uniforms and war goods for their men were brought together and of course the men on the battlefields fighting together managed to build a strong relationship among themselves. As a direct result everyone learnt to look after one another and to care for each other, reflecting the fact that; We are all members of one body. as the Inspector would say. The audience now more aware could look at certain characters i. e. Birling and see how wrong he actually is. How does the Inspector represent and present Priestleys central themes or ideas could one say? First I shall establish what Priestleys central themes actually are. His central ideas are the aspects of: responsibilities the responsibilities people can and cannot accept, personally and socially; community the environment people are living in and how it affects them; lies and truth can certain people tell lies and get away with them easily and how some people can tell constant lies whilst some cannot even tell one; honesty and self-deception can people be honest or indeed cannot, if so how can they without being affected in any way, how can they deceive themselves; equality and social snobbery why do some people believe they are superior to others and party; double standards how and why do the men act differently and have different rights than the women and why are they considered less affected by bad news. Mr. Birling believes that a man should make his own way in life, stands on his own two feet and should only look after himself and his family. He says; a man has to make his own way has to look after himself and his family too, of course community and all that nonsense a man has to mind his own business and look after himself and his own-. This quotation clearly expresses Birlings feelings about community, he believes its nonsense, and he doesnt seem to care for others, only blood relatives and his wife. The audience now looking back to this attitude may well have thought like that before the war but probably have a totally different view after. The Inspector arrives and talks about community, he somehow manages to predict (hence his name Goole supernatural quality) the future and so his view on community is just like the audiences only that he is in the year 1912 whilst the audience are in the year 1945. This is an example of forward thinking and because many members of the audience felt like Priestley he could try to persuade them to take his point of view. This is a very good example of a deliberate attempt made by Priestley to get the audience thinking about this attitude of Birlings and the past, maybe even Priestley himself thought like this before the experiences of the wars. Priestly enables the audience to use their hindsight to reject Birlings opinions because Priestley has made Birling say the Titanic would not sink; the titanic and unsinkable, absolutely unsinkable, and there would not be a war Nobody wants war theres too much at stake these days nothing to gain by war, and we as the audience know he is wrong on this, we therefore also reject his other views and thus accept the Inspectors point of view as a result. Mrs. Birling is another example of someone who will not admit personal responsibilities. She clearly does not want to accept any responsibility for the death of Eva Smith. A quote that shows this; father of the child, its his responsibility. We can clearly see that Mrs. Birling is trying to blame the death onto someone else and we begin to gather an image of this woman in our imagination. Another quote that backs up this view is; I accept no blame for it at all. Again Mrs. Birling is refusing responsibility. The audience know that everyone is responsible for one another because they have been shown this through the Inspectors comments. The Inspector talks about social responsibilities. Although Eric and Sheila do show signs of this the Inspector is the one who stands out the most. He says just before he leaves; One Eva Smith is gone but there are millions more Eva Smiths and John Smiths all intertwined with our lives We are all members of one body what we do affects others. This quotation is very important. The Inspector says these words because he is very aware of the fact that war will occur in the future which will cause the people no matter what position in society or class to come together, everyone will be responsible for one other, there will be no superior individuals. The audience will most certainly agree with the comment as they too just like Priestly have lived through the wars and are very much aware of the changes that are going to happen. The upper class community at the time was very formal. There were successful businessmen and their very snobby wives who were totally dependent on their husbands business. There were frequent dinner parties where these upper class people met, and obviously their conversations were dominated by business. The Inspector enters on the stage during one of these parties. The upper class people were very shocked to find out if someone in their community misbehaved; it was more likely to be a lower class person who did so. Mrs. Birling shows this when she discovers that someone she thought was a respectful citizen actually frequently abuses young women, she says; (staggered) well, really! Alderman Meggarty I must say, we are learning something tonight. This quotation with the direction staggered shows that Mrs. Birling is clearly shocked and amazed that this man is carrying out these activities on young women and also she is ignorant of the activities that are happening in the upper class society. Imagine the Inspector being a sharp object i. e. a pin and the Birlings are being protected by an invisible shield i. e. a bubble that only contains ignorance and what ever they want it to contain, the Inspector pops this bubble and the truth about the world rushes in. The Birlings are pretty much so protected from the terrible world and the Inspector is pouring these terrible facts onto them, exposing them. This could be another function; to present the facts to the Birlings, to make them see the truth about the real world and so learn from what they are doing. The Inspector manages to expose some of the characters double standards, Mrs. Birling being a good example. She says to her daughter Sheila; Girls of that class in response to an opinion of Sheilas, one which shows signs of sympathy towards Eva. Mrs. Birling also says; .. As if a girl of that sort would ever refuse money! in response to one of the questions the Inspector asks, showing that Mrs. Birling is an upper class snob who could not possibly have feelings or consideration for other classes of people. She believes she is so much better and more superior to others, she is totally stuck up, mocking others from her over hanging, protective bubble. When the war ended especially the First World War everyone including people like Mrs. Birling, were refreshed i. e. reminded that humans are one species and there is no reason why some of them should feel or believe that they are more superior to others. The war if you like was a warning or indication of some sort from somebody and was a deliberate event to make society realise what it has become. Another function of the Inspector is to try to warn the Birlings that if society will not change then war will follow. Priestley himself is using the Inspector as a tool to do this. Each character in the play has an individual personality and of course their personal view on different matters will be very different from others, in one sense each of the Birlings can represent each member of an upper class society. Some characters tell lies whilst others admit the truth straight away. In my view Eric and Sheila are very alike and are the sort of people who would admit to the truth straight away with no hesitation although Sheila is more honest. Gerald and Mr. and Mrs. Birling seem to me to be a little more difficult to get the truth out of. The Inspector very cunningly manages to get a confession or something with significance out of all the characters one way or another, for example he leaves Sheila and Gerald to talk alone whilst he is listening to the conversation and waiting for that key confession. Sheila and Mr. Birling say their part in the role of Eva Smiths death with little persuasion, although Mr. Birling needs to be convinced occasionally. Quotes that show the characters lying, telling the truth, being honest or being deceiving are (Gerald lying); And I have already told you I was awfully busy at the works all that time. We later discover that Gerald was actually having an affair not working at his works. Gerald clearly is feeling nothing when he says this even though he is lying to his fiance and deceiving himself. Sheila shows honesty and responsibility when she confesses that she got Eva Smith sacked from Milwards. She does not hesitate and takes responsibility for her role in the death of Eva Smith. The quotes that show her honesty is when she says; (miserably) so I am really responsible? this quotation is showing that Sheila is felling guilt for her participation in the death of Eva Smith. Also; Im trying to tell the truth. This quotation is showing that Sheila is someone who is honest, kind and caring unlike her mother. The Inspector has in one way done a good thing by introducing this news, he has made the Birlings, Sheila in particular, realise that things terrible do happen, for example the suicide of Eva Smith, and if you have been responsible somehow then you should accept the consequences that await. Sheila explains what happened freely, and throughout she shows signs of guilt. Sheila is an honest person unlike her fiance Gerald who needs persuasion to admit his role in the death. Mr. Birling being a businessman like Gerald has similar opinions (these two characters represent all upper class businessmen) and so when the Inspector and Eric try to make Mr. Birling feel responsible he obviously tries to blame it onto the girl and Gerald backs him up. The quote that shows this is when he says; Rubbish! If you dont come down on some of this people they will soon be asking for the earth. Gerald replies I should think so! These quotations show that Mr Birlings honest opinion is to be tough and harsh to the employees if they ask for more so that you do not show weakness. It also shows that he feels strongly about this as he has used said this view in a loud manor (exclamation mark shows this). Is this view wrong? Should he be saying this? Priestley is trying to get the audience thinking about these aspects he is concerned about and he uses the Inspector or numerous occasions very effectively to get these views out of the characters. Mrs. Birling as I mentioned before doesnt want to accept responsibility for Eva Smiths death. When the Inspector asks her questions, she could be considered a liar as she says; Ive done nothing wrong and you know it. Mrs. Birling has done something wrong however she cannot admit it this quotation is showing that she is in fact lying. The Inspector is using what the characters have done in the past to question against them and to see how much they can tolerate, he in one way winds them up by going against what they think is right. There are frequent examples throughout this play that show that the men are more able to accept bad news. Mr. Birling and his wife try to protect their young daughter from the suicide on numerous occasions one such occasion is when Mr. Birling says to the Inspector; (angrily) there is not the slightest reason why my daughter should be brought into this unpleasant business. Mr. Birling does not want his daughter to be exposed to the horrible truth of life, at least not at the moment. Again there are examples throughout the play that show that the men are more likely to have a sexual relationship before marriage and it is considered natural, unlike for the upper class women who are not allowed or presumed not too. Priestley doesnt believe that women should be protected we can tell this because he uses the Inspector who says in affect that there is no reason why Sheila should not hear the truth. He says to Sheila when Mr. Birling tells her to run along; No, wait a minute Miss Birling, in other words he wants Sheila to be involved in the conversation. I will need to take out a bank loan of à £5000 and à £1000 from my sleeping partners. I will also be contributing capital be putting in à £3000 of owners capital. This is the way I will obtain the money, especially as in the first year of running, there are many expenses such as payment for gym equipment, computers, desks etc from looking at my cash flow forecast. By having some capital invested into the business it will help paying the cash outflows, which shall reduce the amount of dept significantly in year one as the cash outflow and much more higher than the inflows. This is way the capital from the bank loan, ownerââ¬â¢s investment and sleeping partners will help balance the cost and reduce the net cash flow. I will obtain the à £5000 in a form of a short term loan from HSBC, which is payable over the first year of running JB Fitness so they can clear their depts and focus on increasing profit margins. 4.3 The cash flow forecast from year one to year three shows that the closing bank balance in December was increasing significantly. In year one, the closing bank balance for year one was à £21,826, year two was à £54,303 and in year three was à £66,744. This shows that from year one to year three the closing bank balance for December had increased by à £44,918, which shows that year upon year my closing balance was increasing that mean that I had high amount of capital to take over to the new year. In year one the reason as to why my net cash flow was -13,985 was because of high expenses made in January as the outflows made were very costly. For example, paying for gym equipment, computers, chairs, desks etc. as my net cash flow in January for year one was showed minus figures meant than my cash outflows were higher than my cash inflows, however this was expected due high start-up costs. In year two my cash outflows were reduced considerately to a low amount, as there were no start up costs and minimum expenses such as payment for stock, wages, rent, gas and electricity, website etc. This meant that for each month in year two there was a higher net cash monthly flow in comparison to year because of lower cash outflows. For example, in year one for December the net cash monthly was à £538 and in year two for December it was à £1,343, which had increased by à £807 in year two. In year three, the closing balance for December was à £66,744, which shows the capital remaining i n the bank was outstandingly good because the closing balance from year two to year three had increased by à £12,441 for December. This shows that the overall cash flow position was improving from year one to three as the net cash monthly flow was increasing rapidly, which indicates that the cash inflows were greater than the cash outflows which shows great importance. 4.4 From analysing the profit and loss accounts from year one to year three, I can confirm that the profit from year one to year three are increasing which suggested that JB Fitness have made a significant amount of profit to survive. In year, there was a lower amount of profit being made in comparison to year two and three. The net profit made in year one was à £12,848 whereas in year two the net profit made was à £54,325. The reason as to why there was a smaller amount of net profit being made in year one was because of the long list of costly expenses such as gym equipment, Jacuzzi, showers etc. In year two the net profit made is almost five times as much net profit made in year one, which shows that JB Fitness profit was increasing. In year one, the sales revenue made was à £156,220 and in year two, the sales revenue made was à £171,988. Form year one to year two the sales revenue increased by à £15,768. In year three the net profit made was à £66,766, which shows that the net profit was increasing year upon year as it increased by à £12,441 from year two to year three. A socialist economy has a different set of value than a free economy. A socialist economy is focused more on equality while a free economy is more on individuality and independence. Business makes decisions based on a utilitarian perspective. Economics assume that humans make decisions based on their rational self-interest, which increases their individual values and utility. This is the same with businesses. Since economics studies and analyzes efficiency of using limited resources to achieve maximum satisfaction and benefits based on the economyââ¬â¢s wants and needs, businesses look for results that will increase their productivity and generated income. Though rational decisions may change on the given circumstances, the perspective of a business remains the same, to gain revenue and to increase productivity. Ethics and social norms are the factors that tends to hold back businesses in greedily assuming all values and profits they can get with the limited resources that the environment has and can produce. Ethics are the guidelines by which businesses consider when taking on projects or developing projects. The accompanying changes in ethical standards and considerations of different economies can be seen on how China, U.S. and Jamaica faced economic changes. Chinese business culture is based on the perspective of Confucianism and Maoism, which focuses on moral principles and standards. Jamaica, on the other hand, was willing to open its doors to capitalism, aiming to rise above from their colonial status. With this, Jamaica is more open to a capitalist structured norms and values, which is being open, free and independent. Thus, Jamaica shows a lower uncertainty avoidance showing that they are open to risks and challenges. U.S. being a proponent of capitalism and democracy has values set on individualism and independence. The term provided that the two countries were to collaborate in the fight against a common enemy and pursue of common objectives together. The Anglo-American co-operation also discouraged the American manipulation of the British economic weakness. It also helped to manage the mismatch between Britainââ¬â¢s overseas capabilities and commitments. The Anglo-American treaty meant that US was to tolerate the British discriminatory practices such as support for British established overseas interest, the sterling Area and allow the British policy makers to abandon their unsustainable territories without US viewing Britain as a weak country (Dorey 2005, p.73). The aspiration of the Anglo-American relationship seemed unrealistic after the Second World War. This was because of the loan given to UK by US during the Second World War, severe differences over the Palestine question, the unbridled pursuit of international free trade by US, and betrayal in the nuclear research. The reaffirmation of the special relationship between the two countries enabled Britain to regain some of its lost influence in Washington. The relationship created opportunities to for UK to harness Americans powers. the British and US took a central role in the structuring of post war international order by creating institution such as the UN security council, the Bretton Wood system, the NATO and the GATT. The mutual economic interdependence strengthened the partnership between UK and US. For example, the sterling become the reserve currency for the Bretton woods system, America surpassed Australia as the British biggest export market in the year 1956. The Anglo-American economic relation was also crucial in the subordination of the multilateralism enforcement to the western world by US (Dorey 2005, p.74). The central agenda in the Anglo-American co-operation was the defense alliance, which involved the sharin g of military technology and intelligence. For example, the US Atomic Energy act restored the nuclear relationship curtailed by the McMahon Act. Britain also accessed the US key to controversial bases and facilities in the homeland and the Polaris submarine base (Dorey 2005, p.74). Britain also benefited a lot from the Anglo-American relationship during the cold war. America provided several economic relief and the Britain transferred unsustainable territories of Greece and turkey. This was important for the two nations as US was British greatest friend and it helped to maintain the impression of the Anglo-American solidarity. America was the power capable of supporting the British interest, and Britainââ¬â¢s international status relied on the American willingness to treat Britain as a partner in their relationship (Dorey 2005, p.74). The Anglo-American relationship played a crucial role in Britainââ¬â¢s international policy during the Second World War. During this period, Bri tain needed to win US sympathy and material aid so as to survive, especially after the fall of France in July 1940. After 1940, the propaganda about Britainââ¬â¢s ailing economy spread in North America. This made Britain seek financial aid from US president, Franklin Roosevelt in the form of a ââ¬Ëlendââ¬â¢ lease programme to finance it war programmes (Addison Milissa Mattisonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02021577369735581429noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-395525341968870449.post-88601707246705526782020-01-31T20:40:00.001-08:002020-01-31T20:40:02.037-08:00IEEE Technical paper based on 1597.1 standard in Electromagnetic Lab ReportIEEE Technical paper based on 1597.1 standard in Electromagnetic compatibility - Lab Report Example To achieve this, we performed a series of shielding effectiveness (SE) tests for a board level shielding product with different apertures by means of a reverberation chamber. An analytical shielding effectiveness formulation has been developed in comparison with the shielding effectiveness (SE) measurement results. When performing tasks related to electromagnetic shielding, Board Level Shielding (BLS) is widely used for isolating electromagnetic interferences. A typically perfect Board Level Shielding (BLS) is deemed to have no apertures and it is fixed to the ground plate of the circuit board all round in order to reach maximum shielding effectiveness (SE). By introducing several apertures, we can be able to make the Board Level Shielding (BLS) lighter weight and increase its convenience. To evaluate the effect of the aperture size and the total number of apertures on the shielding effectiveness, several tests were performed in the lab and a number of apertures of different sizes and the results obtained were compared. The results are processed and used to plot the corresponding shielding effectiveness (SE) data using calculation tools based on the shielding theory. The IEEE standard 1597.1 demands that we use feature selective (FSV) to compare the level of agreement between the reference and the numerical results. In this method, the data sets are compared by decomposing them into two parts: This approach involves taking the overlapping portion of the two datasets and interpolating them so that they share a coincident x axis location. A Fourier transformation is then used to transform this data. The two data sets are low (DC), band (L0) and high pass (Hi) filtered. The six elements are then inversely transformed. Comparing the trend data gives the Amplitude Difference Measure (ADM). There have been multiple studies to find the actual amount of our waking lives spent communicating, and the percentage of time we spend in each division of communication. The article, ââ¬Å"Measurement of Time Spent Communicating,â⬠is the result of a communication study of employees of a research and development laboratory. The study was based on two techniques: direct observation, and questionnaires. How much time do people spend communicating at work? How much time do people spend using machines at work? This useful information can help to improve the amount of work done in a certain amount of time. If people spend more time communicating to get a job done, then our communication skills possibly need improvement. The talking people do is related with their work output. The same goes for machinery; if we spend more time in person-machine interaction, improving machinery would be the main advance to improving jobs. People were observed at one instance in time in offices of one person to five people, some at supervisory levels, laboratories, hallways, and conference rooms. The observation data was divided into to groupsââ¬â¢ time spent communicating, and time spent working with equipment. These categories were subdivided in different types of communication activities, including face-to-face communication, telephone communication, reading, and writing, and different types of equipment uses, including lab equipment, office machinery, and an other category. Pre-tests showed the three trained clerks could classify the behavior of the employees reliably. Sampling moments were random and unbiased, only avoiding break times and everyoneââ¬â¢s lunch, and are correspondent to the entire working day. The questionnaires were placed at the desks of all the people in the sampling areas, offices, and laboratories. The questionnaires were pre-tested to make sure the wording was understood, and the ordering of questions didnââ¬â¢t change the results. The employees were to answer seven questions all percentages that should add up to 100% of the working week. The questionnaires that were returned and did not add up to between 90% and 110% were disregarded. 4,000 questionnaires were distributed, and 2626, or 66%, were returned and usable. Overall, the common results of the observations and questionnaires were recognizable. The observation method is more accurate, and unbiased, so the main differences in the two sets of data are explained by people underestimating the time they spend communicating face-to-face, and overestimating the time they spend reading and writing. The questionnaire and observed data representing how much time is spent speaking on the telephone, working with lab equipment and office machinery, and other were relatively the same. Another observation is that the amount of time spent communicating depends on how many people are in the office. The fewer people, the more communication went on. This could be due to the fact that many one or two person offices were supervisory level, and therefore had to communicate to employees more often. All offices engaged in face-to-face communication more than in laboratories. Although, time spent working with equipment is only 13%, even though the research study population is a research and development laboratory. This leads us to the conclusion that communication with people, not equipment, is the center of activity for most professionals, administrators, clerks, secretaries and technicians. That question was ââ¬Å"Is it better to be loved than feared, or vice versaâ⬠(p.392)? Machiavelli thought that one is to be loved feared. Nevertheless, at the same time itââ¬â¢s tremendously hard to achieve being both loved feared. Machiavelli believed that if one had to do without one of them that it would be a safer to be feared than to be loved. For example if a ruler was more loved than feared then if you served their menââ¬â¢s interest were also devoted to them they would promise you their blood, possessions, lives, children until you needed help because once you needed help you were on our own. If youââ¬â¢re more feared than loved then when youââ¬â¢re in trouble yourâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Erasmus believed in many characteristics of a good prince, a living similarity of God, who is at once good powerful. The prince has great goodness, which encourages him want to help a ll; his power allows him to do that. A good price must hold the life of each individual person more cherished than his own. Heââ¬â¢s to work strive each every day night so that he can be the best for everyone. Heââ¬â¢s to give incentives to all ââ¬Ëgoodââ¬â¢ men he may not seek recompensation. He must look out for the well-being at great risk to himself. He is to remember that all of his wealth is in the hands of his nation. Heââ¬â¢s to always be alert on watch so that all of his people may sleep without the fear of being invaded. The prince may not grant vacation to himself because heââ¬â¢s to always devote his life to peace of his country. He must do everything including the whole kit caboodle as well as allowing everything that can possibly bring never-ending peace to his country. In todayââ¬â¢s world, I would have to say that the perspective of Erasmus is more modern contemporary. Just by rereading over all the characteristics that Erasmus as well as Machiavelli wrote, Erasmusââ¬â¢s is more comparable to what a ruler is supposed to be like in todayââ¬â¢s society. Even though there are a few things in Machiavelliââ¬â¢s story that are comparable to todayââ¬â¢s rulers in society, Erasmus had more things that were comparable. Can any person become a leader or should a person be a born one. To sort it all out we should begin with a definition of this notion. Leadership is a kind of influence, in which one person has an effect upon opinions of others and leads them to accomplish the necessary objective. Leadership is when one person captivates collaborators with one common goal. Thus, to become a good leader and to be successful you have to convince your followers that you are worth of being followed. If you have the desire, patience and willpower, you can become an effective leader. Good leadership qualities are developed through a constant process of self-study, education, training and experience, i.e. these qualities are acquired through regular exercising and study. Good leaders do not rest on their laurels but are constantly improving these leadership skills. I can suggest you the following steps if you want to become an effective leader: Challenge the subjects First, find out the subject that you believe needs your utmost attention. Inspire a shared vision Next, share your point of view with your followers. Enable others to act Give them tools and methods to solve the problem. Show how to act ââ¬â A real leader should show their subordinates the way to treat problems and difficulties. Encourage the hearts Share the glory with your followers hearts, while keeping the pains within your own. According to some observers, the industrial era s successor--the information age, in which white-collar jobs exceeded blue-collar jobs and entire industries arose just to help companies manage and process information--is already at or past the midpoint of its life cycle. Or Did the 9/11 bring people together? The 9/11 was a very significant event and brought many people together in many different ways. In circumstances of extreme stress we hear moving accounts of people going out of their way to help each other. Studies show that acute stress can lead to greater cooperative, social and friendly behaviour, even in men. We will write a custom essay sample on How Did 9/11 Bring People Together or any similar topic only for you Order Now This more positive reaction can help the human connections that occurred during the time of crisis associated with the 9/11. Social connections are particularly important under stress because stress naturally leads so a sense of vulnerability and loss of control, this is an example of why the people of not only America, but the world came together through this tormenting time to support one another. The September 11 attacks were a series of four coordinated terrorist attacks launched upon the United States in New York and Washington D. C area by an Islamic terrorist group, al-Qaeda. On the morning of September 11, 2001, al-Qaeda terrorists hijacked four passenger jets. American Airlines Flight 11 and United Airlines Flight 175 crashed into the North and South towers of the World Trade Centre as suicide attacks. Both towers collapsed and debris led to the partial collapse of all other buildings in the New York World Trade Centre. The third plane, American Airlines Flight 77, was crashed into the Pentagon, which was the headquarters of the United States Department of Defence. The fourth plane, United Airlines Flight 93, was targeted at the United States Capitol in Washington, D. C. , but crashed into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania after its passengers fought back against the al-Qaeda terrorists. Almost 3000 people died in the 9/11 attacks. An example of the 9/11 bringing people together is the cooperation of different religious groups. Churches that typically held services only on Sundays opened their doors on the Tuesday of the attacks and held them open for some following days and for a short time attendance in churches and other houses of worship skyrocketed. Members of religious groups met together and tried to understand each otherââ¬â¢s beliefs to help one another. A decade later, a group of religious leaders representing the Christian, Islamic and Jewish faiths met to plan a special interfaith service for the 10th anniversary of the 9/11. The service included prayers, music, Scripture and short messages from participants. The organisers went to great lengths to celebrate religious diversity and to make sure readings and prayers are as universal as possible. Deidre Gordon, a member of the Islamic centre reinforced the idea of the 9/11 bringing people together. ââ¬Å"Itââ¬â¢s a chance to recognize beneath all this diversity, we have a lot we share. â⬠We hear often hear moving stories of strangers coming together to help save each other from the burning buildings, one of which I came across was this; ââ¬Å"Today, after a 72 hour shift at the fire station, a woman ran up to me at the grocery store and gave me a hug. When I tensed up, she realized I didnââ¬â¢t recognise her. She let go with tears of joy in her eyes and said, ââ¬Å"On 9-11-2001, you carried me out of the World Trade Centre. â⬠As you can see the 9/11 did bring people together, 12 years ago, President George W. Bush proclaimed, ââ¬Å"America is united. â⬠The production of American flags surged and the flags soared, and America really was united. America mourned together, raged together and resolved together. They reached out to others in a way most didnââ¬â¢t do previously. The gunman was hiding closely behind his hostage and exposing little of his body to them. Smith knew he couldnt risk a shot. There were too many people in the tavern, and most of them were behind Richards. He might hit one of them if he missed the gunman. And he probably would miss. The target being offered to him was much too small. Smith glanced at his partner, Mary Scott. She was a very good shot. She was capable of hitting a small target at this range. She was the departments pistol champion, and she could consistently hit a quarter at thirty feet with the gun she carried. But she was in an awkward position at the moment. There were several people between her and Richards. She needed time to get around them. But she was slowly weaving her way through the crowd and moving closer to the ex-con who was holding a gun to the old mans head. If she could get into a better position, and if Richards gave her even the smallest target, she would put him down. Smith realized that he had to buy her some time. He had to keep Richards occupied until she was in the clear. He spoke soothingly to the gunman. Richards, youve killed one man already tonight. Dont make it worse by doing it again. That wiseguy had it coming, Richards responded. If he hadnt made me mad, I wouldnt have killed him. Maybe we can make a deal, Smith said. If you surrender now, Ill tell the judge that you said you did it only because you were angry. No, Richards shouted. No deals. If I have any business with you, itll be to blow you away. Smith glanced at his partner again. She needed only a few more seconds. Richards, we dont want to shoot you, we only want to help you. Tell me how we can do that. Just let me take a shot at you. If youll let me do that without shooting back, Ill be satisfied. When Mary Scott reached the pool table, she looked at Richards. She was now within ten feet of him, and no one stood betwee n them except the hostage. She assessed her chances of hitting Richards at that range. It would be easy if only a little more of his head was showing. But he wasnt exposing his head to her, and thats where she had to place the shot. If she hit him anywhere else, he might pull the trigger before he died. If he did that, the old man would also die. There was a terrible stillness as Richards shifted his eyes between Mike Smith and Mary Scott. He did it slowly. He sensed that if he moved too quickly, or did the wrong thing, one of these cops would risk taking a shot at him. He started to back toward the door, dragging his hostage with him. Smith looked at Richards over the sights of his gun and said, Dont do it, Richards. Its a fools move. If youll just drop the gun, no one will be hurt. I promise you that. Richards grinned. Drop dead. The old man was terrified. He didnt say a word as the ex-con pulled him toward the door, but his eyes begged the two cops to do something anything to s ave him. As Richards inched toward the door, Smith and Scott followed. The gunman looked at Mary and swore. Ill kill this guy if either of you come any closer, he said. Mary responded. Dont do that, Richards. If you kill him, well drop you on the spot. Richards laughed strangely. All I want to do is get outta here. If you dont let me do that, Ill kill all of you. Mary looked at the crowd. Everyone was nervous. A few of them were close to panic. One woman was anxiously looking toward the door, and Mary thought she might run toward it at any moment. Mary didnt want her to do that.
